The world’s first full-scale anthropomorphic robot, built by Ichiro Kato’s lab at Waseda University. WABOT-1 walked on two legs, gripped with tactile hands, measured distances with artificial eyes and ears, and conversed in Japanese — with the estimated faculties of an 18-month-old child.
