Unitree · Humanoid · 2025
The Unitree R1 is billed as the most affordable capable humanoid ever from a major manufacturer, unveiled in July 2025 from about US$4,900 (R1 Air) / $5,900 (standard) — a fraction of the company's $16,000 G1. The child-sized 1.23 m, ~25 kg robot packs 26 joint modules (6 per leg, 5 per arm, 2 waist, 2 head) driven by low-inertia permanent-magnet synchronous motors, giving it striking agility: it runs, cartwheels, does handstands and spin-kicks and recovers from falls autonomously. A backpack compute module runs Unitree's UnifoLM multimodal large language model on-device for voice and image interaction, with a Linux SDK and ROS 2 interfaces on the EDU variant. A quick-release battery gives roughly one hour of mixed activity. Named a TIME Best Invention of 2025, the R1 began phased global deliveries in April 2026, including a landmark retail launch on AliExpress.
