Sony's compact entertainment humanoid (originally the SDR-4X II prototype), announced in September 2003 as a successor to the AIBO robot dog. At 58 cm and ~7 kg with 38 degrees of freedom, QRIO used ZMP control to walk, dance and recognise faces, and in 2003 became the world's first humanoid capable of sustained running (~23 cm/s) — a feat recognised by Guinness World Records in 2005. It could also recover from falls. Sony ended the project in 2006.
