ARMAR-6

KIT · Humanoid · 2018

ARMAR-6, from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology's High Performance Humanoid Technologies (H2T) lab led by Tamim Asfour, is a high-performance collaborative research humanoid built for human-robot collaboration in real-world scenarios — famously demonstrated proactively assisting maintenance workers, recognising when a coworker needs a tool and handing it over. It's a torque-controlled humanoid upper body with dexterous five-finger hands, a stereo/RGB-D perception head and force-torque sensing, mounted on a wheeled mobile platform, and it runs on KIT's ArmarX robot software framework for perception, grasp and manipulation planning. ARMAR-6 is the latest widely-published member of the long-running Karlsruhe ARMAR humanoid family, which also includes the earlier ARMAR-III and the 63-DOF torque-controlled biped ARMAR-4. NOTE: ARMAR-6's exact per-limb DOF and mass aren't uniformly published across sources; core configuration and capabilities are verified from KIT/ARMAR-6 papers (the ICRA/Humanoids literature) — figures flagged where they vary rather than guessed.
