Kawasaki's Kaleido (RHP — Robust Humanoid Platform) is the humanoid line from one of the world's oldest industrial-robot makers, in development since 2015 and first shown in 2017. This generation stands 1,780 mm at 85 kg with 32 DOF and unusually high industrial upper-body strength — handling loads up to 60 kg — while achieving fully untethered bipedal walking on an onboard battery. Kawasaki hit that stand-alone operation without weight gain through aggressive engineering: a magnesium-alloy skeleton (lighter than aluminium) and 3D-printed resin exterior panels replacing metal, plus integrating the previously external ~30 kg controllers into compact in-body drivers. It demonstrated stand-ups, pull-ups and two-handed grasping, with stereo-camera vision and object recognition. Kawasaki aims Kaleido at disaster response and dangerous industrial tasks, leveraging 50+ years of factory-robot heritage.
