ergoCub, from the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), is an ergonomically-designed collaborative humanoid — an evolution of IIT's famous iCub — built specifically to reduce musculoskeletal injuries among workers. Standing 1.5 m and 55.7 kg and able to carry about 10 kg, its geometry was optimised during design to minimise the combined energy/joint effort of human-robot lifting tasks. It incorporates an Intel RealSense depth camera and LiDAR for navigation, new-generation force-torque sensors that let it respond intuitively to external forces, and a flexible OLED 2K face screen for expressive interaction, all powered by an NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier alongside an 11th-gen Intel i7. It's the centrepiece of the ergoCub project, a collaboration between IIT and INAIL (Italy's workplace-accident insurer, which funded €5M over three years) aimed at cutting biomechanical risk for future workers through humanoids, wearables and AI.
