Ameca, from UK firm Engineered Arts (Falmouth, Cornwall), is widely regarded as the world's most expressive humanoid robot — the grey-skinned, deliberately gender- and race-neutral face that went viral for its unsettlingly lifelike expressions. First shown at CES 2022 (project began Feb 2021, Generation 3 launched at ICRA 2025 alongside the 'Ami' companion), it stands 1,870 mm at 62 kg and is built on Engineered Arts' proprietary Mesmer actuator technology for smooth, precise facial and upper-body articulation. Crucially it is a static interaction platform — no functional locomotion; it stands on a weighted base or stage mount — designed for public engagement, hospitality, museums and human-robot-interaction research. It's modular (head, arms and torso sold separately/upgradeable) and cloud-connected, running the Tritium OS with integration to AI systems including OpenAI's GPT models and human telepresence/avatar control, programmable in Python, C++ and block-based code.
