First of NASA's twin Mars Exploration Rovers. Landed at Gusev Crater on 4 January 2004 with a 90-sol design life. Operated for 2,210 sols (over 6 years), traveled 7.73 km, and discovered evidence of past hydrothermal activity. Got stuck in soft soil in 2009 and continued as a stationary platform until last contact in March 2010.
