NASA JPL · Aerospace · 2021
Ingenuity was NASA/JPL's Mars helicopter - the first powered, controlled flight on another planet (Apr 2021). Just 1.8 kg with counter-rotating rotors and solar charging, it flew 72 times over ~3 years (vs a 5-flight plan), covering ~17 km, before rotor-blade damage grounded it in Jan 2024.
