Shuttle Remote Manipulator System (SRMS). The 15.2 m, 6-DOF robotic arm operated on all 90 Space Shuttle missions from 1981 to 2011, deploying and retrieving payloads including the Hubble Space Telescope. Established Canadian leadership in space robotics. Built by Spar Aerospace (now MDA), it could handle payloads up to 29,000 kg in microgravity but only 90 kg in Earth's gravity.
