Yukai Engineering · Social · 2025
A palm-sized, furry companion robot from Tokyo's Yukai Engineering (the studio behind Qoobo and Nekojita FuFu), shown at CES 2025. Mirumi clips onto a bag handle or strap and does exactly one thing charmingly: it turns its single rotating head to 'peek' at nearby people. Using an internal IMU and a distance sensor, it scans its surroundings and, once it notices someone, fixes them with an innocent baby-like gaze — then acts bashful and hides its face, or gives a little bow when petted. Inspired by the warm feeling of catching a cute baby's eye in public, it has no voice or app; its whole purpose is to spark small moments of shared joy with strangers on a train or in a queue.
