Volocopter · Drones · 2017
Volocopter's production-intent two-seat eVTOL multicopter, unveiled at AERO Friedrichshafen in 2017 as the successor to the VC200. Its signature look is 18 electrically driven rotors on a circular frame (~9.15 m across) above the cabin, powered by nine lithium-ion batteries. It carries two people at up to 100 km/h (cruising ~70 km/h) for about 27 km / 27 minutes, on a carbon-fibre fuselage with fixed skids, and can be flown by joystick or autonomously with a forgiving control system that holds altitude and position on its own. A whole-aircraft ballistic parachute and redundant distributed propulsion back its safety case. The 2X made high-profile public flights - including carrying Intel's CEO at CES 2018 and an early flight in Dubai - and served as the stepping stone to Volocopter's certified air taxi, the VoloCity.
