Unimate

Unimation · Industrial · 1961

The first industrial robot in history. Born from George Devol’s 1954 patent and Joseph Engelberger’s vision, Unimate went to work on a General Motors die-casting line in Trenton, New Jersey in 1961 — unloading hot metal parts no human wanted to touch. It launched the entire robotics industry.
