Tombot · Social · 2024
A hyper-realistic robotic Labrador puppy from Tombot, created after founder Tom Stevens had to rehome his mother's dog when she developed Alzheimer's. Designed with Jim Henson's Creature Shop, Jennie has soft realistic fur and lifelike head, eyebrow and tail motion driven by nine servo motors, with capacitive touch sensors across its body that trigger puppy-like reactions based on where and how it's touched, and authentic sounds recorded from 8–10-week-old Labradors. A microphone array lets it understand simple commands (tell it to 'speak' and it barks). Deliberately screen-free and low-tech, it's aimed at comfort for people with dementia, anxiety or sensory-processing needs; Tombot returned to CES 2026 positioning Jennie as an FDA-regulated robotic pet for clinical and long-term-care use, with 7,500+ preorders.
