Sony · Drones · 2021
Sony's first professional drone (announced June 2021) and the world's smallest quadcopter able to carry a full-frame Sony Alpha mirrorless camera. Its four 17-inch props and Sony-designed brushless motors give it up to 55.9 mph (25 m/s) top speed, 0-50 mph in 3.5 s, 180 deg/s angular velocity, a 55-degree attitude angle and wind resistance to 44.7 mph. It flies ~22 minutes unloaded (about 12 with a heavy payload) on hot-swappable batteries and lifts a camera-plus-gimbal payload up to 2.5 kg (Gremsy T3 or GBL-PX1 gimbals, sold separately), compatible with Alpha bodies from the a7S/FX3 to the 8K a1. Five directional stereo cameras plus two IR range sensors feed Sony's Vision Sensing Processor for obstacle avoidance and GNSS-denied positioning; retractable landing gear keeps the shot clear, and a nose FPV camera, Airpeak Flight (iOS) app and cloud-based Airpeak Base enable Mission/Repeat automated flight and dual-operator control. Body-only price around $9,000.
