FX-2, from KAIST's HUBO Lab and Rainbow Robotics, is a large-scale rideable bipedal humanoid — a 'human-riding' robot that walks with a person seated aboard, the successor to the FX-1 model developed in 2013. The pilot controls two manipulator arms (with controllable fingers) through control levers and a simple interface, letting the giant robot mimic the operator's hand movements. Built to carry the torch (literally) for Korea's robotics showcase, FX-2 was selected as a relay runner for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics torch. It demonstrates dynamic bipedal walking under the substantial load of a human occupant, extending the HUBO program's locomotion expertise to large, piloted platforms.
