The Mitsubishi Electric MELFA ASSISTA (RV-5AS-D) is Mitsubishi's collaborative robot, fusing the company's decades of industrial-robot experience with cobot-style ease of use — a 6-axis arm with 5 kg payload, 910 mm reach and a high ±0.03 mm repeatability at nominal load. It's designed to work hand-in-hand with people without fences or enclosures, using per-joint torque sensing for collision monitoring under ISO 10218-1 / ISO/TS 15066, an LED ring for at-a-glance status, and Direct Teaching buttons for point teaching without a pendant. Programming is deliberately open and intuitive via RT VisualBox's drag-and-drop visual environment (no-code), MELFA BASIC VI for depth, and RT ToolBox3, with a broad gripper and vision ecosystem including MELFA-Vision and the AI-driven MELFA SmartPlus option. Uncommon among cobots, it's engineered for food-safe environments, making it a fit for hygiene-sensitive pick-and-place, assembly, machine tending and inspection, as well as research and education.
