Gen3

Kinova · Industrial · 2019

The Kinova Gen3 is one of the most widely used research manipulators in the world — an ultra-lightweight 7-axis arm (8.2 kg, 4 kg mid-workspace payload, 902 mm reach) chosen by hundreds of universities, startups and corporate labs for its portability and sub-30-minute setup. Its distinguishing features are research-grade: 1 kHz closed-loop low-level control, infinite-rotation joints, and Kinova smart actuators with integrated torque sensors plus current, voltage and temperature sensing for precise force control and rich state feedback. An optional Kinova Vision module integrates an Intel RealSense RGB-plus-depth camera directly at the end effector (30 cm–∞ colour, 18 cm–∞ depth) for perception work. It's driven through the Kortex API in C++ or Python with official ROS/ROS 2 kortex drivers, over Gigabit Ethernet from 24 VDC, and offered in 7-DoF, 6-DoF (891 mm) and Gen3 lite forms — the combination of light weight, torque sensing and open software making it a default arm for mobile-manipulation and imitation-learning research.
