Franklin Robotics · Consumer · 2019
The first robotic weeder for home gardens, created by Roomba co-inventor Joe Jones at Franklin Robotics (later Tertill Corp) in North Billerica, Massachusetts. This solar-powered, weatherproof disc lives in the garden from spring to fall, using capacitive bumper sensors to tell tall plants from short weeds and a spinning nylon string trimmer to cut weeds at the base. Four-wheel drive with extreme camber wheels handles soil, sand and mulch; a physical garden border replaces any perimeter wire or GPS.
