The Comau Racer-5 COBOT is, by Comau's account, the only collaborative robot that automatically switches from full industrial speed to collaborative speed the instant a human operator enters its working area — letting one machine replace two (a fast industrial arm and a separate cobot). It pairs a 5 kg payload and 809 mm reach with ±0.03 mm repeatability and up to 6 m/s Cartesian speed in non-collaborative mode, throttling to ≤500 mm/s when collaborating, with Safe Collision Detection certified PL d Cat. 3 by TÜV Süd for fenceless operation. Made entirely in Comau's Turin plant with a rigid construction for lasting precision, it routes electrical and air connections at the forearm to avoid external harnesses, signals its mode via an LED status stripe, and offers Comau's arm-mounted MI.RA vision system for pick-and-place. A Racer-5-0.63 industrial variant (627 mm) completes the family, targeting automotive, electrification and general-industry assembly, dispensing and machine tending.
