Boston Dynamics · Quadruped · 2005
The hydraulically-actuated, gasoline-powered quadruped that put Boston Dynamics on the map (2005, DARPA-funded). BigDog could carry ~150 kg over rough terrain, ice and slopes, famously staying upright when kicked. Loud and never deployed, but its dynamic-balance research directly led to Spot and the modern quadruped industry.
