LS3 (Legged Squad Support System, 2012) was a large DARPA/Marine Corps-funded quadruped — a rugged successor to BigDog designed to carry 180kg of a squad's gear over 20 miles without refueling, following soldiers autonomously through rough terrain. Quieter and more capable than BigDog, it was ultimately shelved partly due to noise and field-practicality concerns.
