Cheetah (2011) was a DARPA-funded research quadruped that set a legged-robot land-speed record of 28.3 mph (12.9 m/s) on a treadmill in 2012 — faster than the fastest human sprinter. It used a hydraulically actuated, articulated-back galloping gait, though it ran tethered to off-board power. Its research fed into the untethered WildCat.
